Most of the time, the reason is quite simple: we do not know each other. I usually only accept people I have worked with in the same company or on the same project. Two or three mutual contacts are not enough for me to accept a request.

Or you are a recruiter sending me a “mysterious” job offer with phrases like:

  • largest e commerce retailer in Switzerland
  • around 900 million in revenue

Those two details alone were enough for me to figure out within 20 seconds which company was looking for new employees. And to be honest, I often find recruiter requests a bit difficult. They are frequently not really tailored to my profile. Sometimes I get the impression that the focus is more on filling a position than on genuine interest in me as a person. That does not feel like a particularly good fit. Of course, I know that not everyone works that way, but unfortunately that is the kind of experience I have had most often so far.

A symbolic example of a request I will not accept. No profile picture and a person whose name means nothing to me.

We do not know each other and you would still like to connect? Then a short explanation of what you want from me and why I should accept your request would certainly help.
