That made the assignment a little more relaxed for me, even though the journey there was anything but relaxed. Because of military service in Graubünden, I missed Contributor Day and only travelled from Zurich to Kraków the next morning. I almost got stuck at the gate: instead of the allowed 8 kg of hand luggage, I had 17 kg with me. Luckily, the staff showed some understanding for why you do not check in camera equipment, and I was still allowed to board the plane.

During the conference days, my focus was on delivering images to the communications team as quickly as possible. Whether talks, encounters, conversations, or the small moments around the event: the photos were meant to be available almost in real time. For me, that meant shooting directly in JPEG and skipping any post processing.

Since I was using two Sony a9 III cameras and the Sony app unfortunately cannot connect to two cameras at the same time, I used the cameras’ FTP and WiFi functions instead. For that, I had my Netgear Nighthawk M6 Pro mobile router with a SIM card with me and set up my own WiFi network.

Both my phone and both cameras were connected to this WiFi network. On my phone, I ran the WiFi Pro FTP Server app, which gave me an IP address. I could then enter that address in the cameras so the images were transferred directly to my phone.

For me, it was once again a lovely opportunity to be part of this community and, after all these years, to give something back. Not in the form of open source code, but through my images. Here are my favourite photos from this edition.
